About this course

This 5-day program is designed as an exploratory journey into STEM fields. While we teach basic building and coding, our bigger purpose is to help students:

🔍 Discover Their Interests:

Experience hands-on engineering through VEX Go building (working in pairs)

Try computer programming through user-friendly block coding

Explore different aspects of STEM in a fun, low-pressure environment

🌱 Identify Natural Talents:

Some students might excel at mechanical design

Others might show a natural gift for logical thinking in coding

Many discover unexpected talents in problem-solving or teamwork

📚 Course Structure:

VEX Go kits provided (similar to LEGO but engineering-focused)

Students bring a tablet/laptop/smartphone for coding

5 sessions (Dec 16-20, 5:00-6:30 PM) at Wesbrook Community Centre Classroom

While we can't cover everything in 5 days, this program serves as a valuable "taster session" to help students and parents:

Understand where their interests lie

Identify natural aptitudes in different STEM areas

Make informed decisions about future learning paths

Consider potential career directions in engineering, computer science, or other STEM fields

For students who discover a passion, we offer pathways to continue their journey through:

VEX robotics competitions

Advanced project work

High school STEM project assistance
